The first time I listened to 1989, Bad Blood stood out. It reminded me of Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl – rumored to be about Courtney Love. Bad Blood is about Katy Perry, and it’s similarities to her style make it all the better. This remix with Kendrick Lamar makes an already great song legendary.

Muir Woods Hike
I recently bought an annual pass for Muir Woods and have taken various friends for short and long hikes over the past several weeks. It’s great seeing the nuances in lighting and climate, and finding the best trails off the main path. One of my favorites, is the Bootjack Trail, which is one of theContinue reading “Muir Woods Hike”
Amor Fati
It’s hard enough to endure bad luck with poise and grace, but it’s another thing entirely to actually enjoy it– to find the good in it. But that’s exactly what great men and women are able to do: At age 67, Thomas edison returned home one evening from another day at the laboratory. Shortly after dinner, aContinue reading “Amor Fati”
Phone Buzz
I am extremely cognizant of my attachment to devices and how I interact with them. After experimenting with a few hacks, I have been able to significantly reduce my usage with small, simple changes to my behavior. I believe the iPhone is an incredible tool that makes our lives much easier. I would never want to give it up, but there is noContinue reading “Phone Buzz”
Psychic Capital
Psychic Capital: Tech and Silicon Valley Turn to Mystics for Advice is mostly a mediocre read, which highlights some tragic truths about San Francisco and Tech. Entering into tech requires people to either amp up their spirituality or to disconnect it and turn awayContinue reading “Psychic Capital”
The Importance of Sleep
Sleep is the topic du jour. The New Yorker takes an in-depth look sleep in this three-part series which covers falling sleep (Why Can’t We Fall Asleep), dreaming (The Work We Do While We Sleep), and wakefulness (The Waking Dead). Also, check out this crazy, firsthand account of How Sleep Deprivation Decays the Mind and Body from The Atlantic.

Stuff & Things
Major update: he’s still missing and now there is an actual CAT DETECTIVE on his case. I sort of love and loathe that this profession is real and I really hope she tracks him down. We learned (from a neighbor, not the detective) that he has gone into their house and stretched out on theContinue reading “Stuff & Things”
Major
I’m really sad tonight. My cat, Major, has been missing since Friday. If you’re inclined, please send prayers and/or positive vibes for his safe return. A photo posted by Major Abyssinian (@majorabyssinian) on Sep 7, 2014 at 8:29pm PDT
Put down your phone
I’ve experienced similar positive benefits by making this one simple change. Studies show using your phone around someone else makes you seem less trustworthy and less empathetic. In addition, even having a phone in view hurts our relationships — whether you check it or not.
